Environmentally conscious health care is taking the lead in hospital trends. Many hospitals are now taking the “first do no harm” mission to heart by fixing the root of the problem, their facilities. By increasing their sustainability, hospitals are benefiting from energy savings, better patient outcomes, staff retention and community approval.
Many of these forward-thinking hospitals are building state-of-the-art facilities from the ground up while others are making smaller changes in things such as energy consumption, eliminating the use of hazardous chemicals, improving indoor air quality and recycling. Due to pressure from the government, healthcare architects, healthcare designers and donors, hospitals will soon be forced to build more efficient, eco friendly facilities.

Implementing green practices at hospitals is good for public health, the environment and the overall economy. Whether building a green hospital from the ground up or simply making small changes in energy consumption, eliminating the use of hazardous chemicals or improving indoor air quality, patients, employees and the environment all benefit. And although some of the changes create an increase in cost initially, in the long run, financial benefits over the life of these changes can well exceed the initial investment.

Mobile Commerce will no longer be just about digital content in the U.S. market, but the cell phone will eventually become a user’s wallet. Increasingly, banks are under pressure to provide multiple payment options to keep customers from going to their competitor. As newer technologies emerge, businesses are beginning to use mobile commerce as a more efficient method of reaching and communicating with customers.
A substantial ten million U.S. cell phone users or 3.8% of the total, now check bank balances, receive bank alerts, or send payments via their cell phones, but the tally may rise to 108 million by 2012, according to Javelin Strategy & Research. Research shows that 40 million U.S. consumers will be using mobile banking by 2012.
Mobile Commerce represents one of the fastest growing and most profitable industries in the United States. The global mobile commerce industry is projected to bring 88 billion dollars for 2009 (Juniper Research). Several trends are key drivers for mobile purchases. They include growth in mobile data services, advances in handsets and operator networks, consumer acceptance of the internet as a purchasing and payment vehicle, and growing consumer interest in mobile banking. Therefore, it is more crucial than ever to have the proper resources in developing and updating your organization’s mobile services. ACI’S Mobile Commerce will provide attendees with the expert knowledge of understanding the mobile financial services background, and how your organization can incorporate these platforms. The U.S. is facing a severe nursing shortage. Already, an estimated 8.5% of the nursing positions in the U.S. are unfilled, and some expect that number to triple by 2020 as 80 million baby boomers retire and expand the ranks of those needing care. Hospital administrators and nurses’ advocates have declared a staffing crisis as the nursing shortage hits its 10th year, the longest stretch in 50 years.
In 2007, 55 percent of nurses reported their intention to retire between 2011 and 2020. In addition, there are currently 500,000 registered nurses who are not currently practicing their profession. Due to this nursing shortage, hospitals are force to become more creative and aggressive with their recruitment and retention programs.
This conference will highlight the best case studies presented by America’s top hospitals ranked by US News and Magnet Status facilities. Senior level administrators and industry leaders from America’s best nursing programs will share their latest experiences
and key strategies on how to:
• Implement cost-effective strategies for nurse retention and recruitment
• Create new hire support programs that work
• Attract and retain new graduate nurses by collaborating with local nursing schools
• Successfully transition new graduate nurses into the workplace
• Achieve Magnet Status and use it as a recruitment and retention tool
• Retain the retired and soon-to-be retired nurse
Join us July 24-25 in Chicago for ACI’s Nurse Recruitment and Retention Conference. With a gathering of hospital leaders all striving to grow their nursing programs, this conference will offer invaluable opportunities to learn from industry experts, consult with leaders, develop partnerships and discuss solutions with decision makers.
